A Four-Word Prayer to Help You See Clearly in 2020
A few years ago, I signed up for a Bible study on the book of Revelation. In the beginning, I thought it was difficult and wasn't sure how I would get through it. But in the end, I was amazed by how much I learned and how applicable each week’s lesson was.
One thing that helped me get through it was a four-word prayer I spoke before I began each week's work.
Those four words were, “Jesus help me see.”
That’s it. That was my prayer during the year I studied Revelation.
The more I prayed it, the more I learned.
I was so encouraged with the results of my four-word-prayer, I began to pray it over other areas of my life.
When I encountered something challenging at work: “Jesus, help me see.”
When I needed insight into a specific problem I was facing: “Jesus, help me see.”
And best of all: When I wasn’t sure what was happening with my children: “Jesus, help me see.”
Again and again, God showed me great and mighty things that only He was capable of knowing.
And that was when I began to find out the secrets my children were keeping. Bit by bit, I would receive nuggets of stories, and put together various pieces of information to learn more than I ever wanted to know about my children’s activities.
Some of the news was frightening and some of it made me sad.
Also, I knew I would sound crazy if I told too many people about my four-word prayer and how God was showing me things that only He could, so I shared little and kept praying: “Jesus, help me see.”
And God was faithful in answering as I kept praying.
Consider the things you could find out by simply praying that four-word prayer.
When you don’t know how you’ll make it through another conversation with your child without driving a wedge in the relationship, Jesus will help you see.
Or if you have no idea how deeply involved your child is with substance abuse or an unhealthy relationship, Jesus will help you see.
And how about trying to navigate through a tangled web of lies, deceptions, and dangerous choices, Jesus will help you see.
I can assure you He will help you because of the way He helped me.
If you want to know what is going on in your loved one’s life, don’t ask them. They will avoid conversations and lie their way through them when they feel trapped.
No, go to Jesus. Ask him to show you what is going on behind the facade. At times, details will surface out of nowhere and yet you’ll know exactly Who revealed them to you.
What I am encouraging isn’t magical and it’s not a guarantee, but it's a starting point and it offers hope in your darkness. And don't be surprised if in your quest for information about your children, you see more and more of Jesus.
Seeing Jesus is far superior to any details He will reveal about your child.
Jesus will help you see His kindness and compassion toward you and your child. He will help you see His presence in your present difficulties. And He will help you see how He too is waiting for His loved ones to turn from their lives of destruction to pursue lives of hope and trust and faith.
While you wait on Jesus to help you see, don’t give up hoping and praying and calling out for help. Pursue peace with your loved one and yourself. Reach out for a compassionate hand to walk with you. And if you are in need of a listening ear, a prayer, or words of encouragement, I want you to contact me.
I want to pray the four-word prayer for you. I want you to know I’m in this with you and that Jesus will help you see clearly in 2020.
"If I rise on the wings of the dawn, if I settle on the far side of the sea, even there your hand will guide me, your right hand will hold me fast." (Ps. 139:9)
Even there!
You are promised that God is available at any moment, no matter what your need is. You are never beyond His guidance.
Call on Him. Ask for His help. Jesus will help you see!
Waiting with you,
Susan
